In class we played the ALLITERATION name game. You chose an adjective/ adverb that described your personality, and began with the same letter or sound of the name you want to be called in the classroom.
After choosing you "name," you will construct a thesis statement that supports your claim with three reasons why you chose that name.
EXAMPLE:
"My name is Crazy Coop because I have eccentric taste in clothing, others may not understand, I am really energetic and distracted with desire and emotion pertaining to the English Language, and I follow an older indie rock band to the 'ends of the Earth'; they are called Guided By Voices."
Then we went around the room and introduced ourselves and provided our reasons for WHY we chose our nicknames. We also continued on to making everyone repeat the names one by one, around the room, until memorized (This can be explained if you were absent!).
We discussed the differences between Composition 1 and Composition 2--there are ALL SORTS OF WORKS/ MATERIALS TO CHOOSE FROM IN ORDER TO SUPPORT OUR CLAIMS! :)
We looked at the HOLY GRAIL--the Daly Paper (see me for a copy)
We discussed MLA format as a review.
The syllabus was distributed and we went-over all necessary elements of the class--ESPECIALLY COMMUNICATION!
We discussed my expectations and students' expectations of me.
The foundation of the course is: READ, REASON, and WRITE--I mentioned that we will be practicing this as early as the following class: FRIDAY.
