We discussed the lack of difference, save the medium in which the message is presented between English composition and Effective Speech. IT IS THE SAME INTERMS OF ORGANIZATION! :)
We discussed the syllabus and the competencies/ requirements of the course; you can access me on Wednesdays most readily in 405--I do not have class on Wednesdays. :)
The alliteration name/ acting game was our ice breaker. If you missed class and are curious about this "game," see me and I will explain AND demonstrate. ;)
We discussed the professional (HANDOUT) for each of our major speeches in the course (informative/ persuasive/ group speech).
We watch Being Mr. G by J.A. Gamache--a Toastmasters International Award winner and assessed the speech based upon the speech rubric used to grade student speeches (HANDOUT)
HOMEWORK: Based upon knowledge so far...prepare a short (3-5 minute) story to tell us about a significant event in your life...see this website for tips:
TOASTMASTERS INTERNATIONAL
TIP: DO NOT chose to talk about something that is REALLY serious or emotional unless there is a comedic twist; you will already be nervous--stick to positive life-changing or motivational experiences.
See you next Tuesday! (NO CLASS ON GOOF FRIDAY)
