Honors English 12 (Thursday August 30, 2007)

Your assignment today was to begin (and most of you finished as well) the "I Am" Poem.

The poem was to be finished for homework if you were not able to complete it in the computer lab today.

Below was the assignment as displayed on the handout given to you today. If you did not receive the handout, or need to get one when you return--check the make-up folder.

This assignment is worth 20 pts.

The “I Am” Poem…

Stanza One:
I am (two special characteristics)
I wonder (something you are actually curious about)
I hear (an imaginary sound)
I see (an imaginary sight)
I want (an actual desire)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)

Stanza Two:
I pretend (something you actually pretend to do)
I feel (a feeling about something)
I touch (an imaginary touch)
I worry (something that really bothers you)
I cry (something that makes you very sad)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)

Stanza Three:
I understand (something you know is true)
I say (something you believe in)
I dream (something you actually dream about)
I try (something you really make an effort about)
I hope (something you actually hope for)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)

Miss Cooper’s “I Am” Poem:

I am genuine and individualistic
I wonder what the world will be like in ten years
I hear too much
I see the beginning and end of each day
I want to acquire a PhD in Rhetoric (someday)
I am genuine and individualistic

I pretend to like being an adult
I feel happy to be healthy
I touch the youthful mind for a living
I worry about what the future will bring
I cry when I cannot help another
I am genuine and individualistic

I understand that not everything can be planned accordingly
I say often that I love to have fun
I dream of a day free of worries
I try to embark upon new journeys each day
I hope to make this year a great year for each of my students
I am genuine and individualistic
