Honors English 12 (April 22, 2008)

In Class:

We spent some time today getting to know our ActivBoard... we took a look at some grammatical mistakes that were made in the summaries of your Sam Pepys: Significant Restoration Events papers...(15 pts)

Good Job Girls and Guys!!! So, you do know grammar?! Use that knowledge!

Also, we began reading the information on pages 546-547 in your text (on Daniel Defoe--a man jailed for his words and beliefs)

We'll be writing another practice MLA document before Friday...One-page, again...and this time you will practice writing a journal the way Defoe did it!

Assignment for Friday:

Choose an historical event that happened throughout the course of your lifetime(1989-90 through 2008)--even if you have to research it , or don't remember it! (i. e. : The Steeler's Superbowl win, The Oklahoma City Bombing, Hurricane Katrina, or even Columbine, Colorado Shootings--though it doesn't HAVE to be a catastrophe--just a significant event!) Write from the perspective of having encountered the event first-hand, even if you did not encounter the event first-hand--WHY? Because it is important to be aware of your socio-cultural surroundings AND we're practicing Defoe's style journal writing. Remember, he was only four years old when the Bubonic Plague broke out in Restoration England...he relied on historical documents and stories in order to formulate his "journal". If you have further questions, see me ASAP!!!
